Webserver switch

/>I just switched my domain over to a new webserver based down in Kentucky. I ran into some technical issue with some customer of mine where the previous server agreement had a 'terms of service' about storing emails on their server. I had 2 people lose all their emails and contacts due to this! GRRR! Well so far the new server is going smooth. I actually was expecting some glitches with this site due to the complexity of it but it was flawless! Oh yeah, I also made the leap to Linux as apposed to Windows for the operating system. I should now have alot more open source applications to use as opposed to before.

My move to Windows Vista!

So I have been using Windows Vista for about 4 weeks now. I managed to get my old Dell Optiplex GX260 desktop tweaked out with a Nvidia 256Mb 6200 video card, 2Gb of RAM and a 160Gb hard drive. I must say, this is running pretty good considering this machine is a Pentium 4, 2.66Ghz processor.
It took awhile to get the video card. I first had to do some research to see what card would work with Vista, let alone inside my small form factor GX260 desktop. After scouring the Dell user forums, I came across another person that used the card with success. I ended up shopping around and buying the video card off of eBay (gave the seller a neutral review because it took almost 2 weeks to get the card). Anyway, the card and PC are working pretty darn good. I am 'teasting' Office 2007 which is pretty cool as well as some of the other core applications I use like Dreamweaver, Fireworks, iTunes, etc...
The biggest obstacle I guess I had to overcome was confirming the applications were Vista-compatible. Most software vendors have made new updated versions that work on Vista, but I had to scour the web in search of ad-ware free apps for ripping DVD movies, mounting and creating ISO disks. Oh yeah, one other cool thing I did was made my previous Windows XP machine into a virtual machine! This allows me to put up my old Windows XP machine inside of Windows Vista using VMware Player. Cool stuff!
Overall Vista is alot of eye candy, which is good. I think most of us get bored of the same desktop picture, theme, mouse, so on and so forth. What I am really looking forward to is an Apple Macbook Pro. I have been saving money for some time to get one and I may just do that this fall. Stay Tuned!
